What is the difference between the unique hardware on your site and other hardware found in hardware stores?

This hardware is made in the US by a well known metal casting company. Hot metal is poured into molds and then spun at high speeds. This forces the metal into the cavities in the mold. The mold is then allowed to cool. Once the metal is hardened, the pieces are then removed from the mold. Expert metalworkers then remove any excess metal (called flash) and then the pieces are finished. The finishing process usually involves either dipping the pieces into various chemicals or electroplating a top layer of metal like nickel on top of the base metal. A layer of lacquer is then applied so that your hardware will not tarnish or change colors due to use.

If you would like more traditional hardware, we also carry those pieces. These are more massed produced than the hardware made in the US, but still very high quality.

I ordered some pewter items and then placed a second order and the finish does not match exactly. Why did this happen?

Every pewter order is hand finished by expert craftsmen. While everything is done to keep the finishes looking consistent from shipment to shipment, there are many variables that we can't control come into play. Even the amount of humidity in the air may effect the final finish.
